I heart burlap.

I heart burlap. Anything burlap. Burlap pillows. Burlap ribbon. Burlap I love.

So, in my usual shopping trip to Hobby Lobby... I walk around the whole store like I have never been there before. And I swear they have NEVER had this. Or I've never noticed it.

I bought two rolls just in case I ran out because I've had a small project in my mind for awhile. And I'm sorry for the crappy pictures because I took them at night!

Now, this roll is 30 FEET of Burlap ribbon which like the packaging states is enough for most projects! And lord knows, I did not pay $13.99 for this bad boy. It was 50% off this week!

If you guys have been paying attention on FB at Home by Ally (here.) you know that I finally got my Ikea barstools I've been drooling over! You can find them here! I bought the white ones and can't seem to find them on their website ;)

They are pretty but they needed something. I'm not big on over doing anything. I like to add small, cute details to any room to make it feel just right...just cozy and inviting.

So, what's a girl to do? Add bows of course. To everything ;) Not really but I did add bows and loved the way it turned out! Do you want to spruce up your barstools now?

They aren't perfect. And nothing in my home is. But I like how this turned out. It reminds me of fall.

I didn't exactly measure any of the bows. And I didn't want the ends to be even either.

I also added some burlap to an old window I have near the kitchen. I love hanging wreaths in the house. They don't have to be just on your front door people! You can hang them on mirrors, old windows like this, doors in your house ,etc.

So what do you think of the bows for my chairs? Here's another BEFORE and AFTER. The before is a picture from Instagram. Wanna follow me? Follow me at allyschmidheiser.

The wrinkledness still needs to fall out some. Yes, I just made that word up. But for now, I'm happy with it or at least for fall decor :) Have you used burlap lately? SHOW me!

Front Door Facelift

FIRST OF ALL.

If you haven't liked my page on FB, PLEASE do so! And tell your FB family and friends about me! I love meeting and hearing from y'all! You can find my Facebook here!

Our front door needed a facelift. Period.

I first blogged about how to make a wreath here. I wanted a different feel all together this time. My last wreath was fun and cute. I wanted something more sophisticated today and very "homey."

I bought all my supplies at the wonderful Hobby Lobby, every woman's secret addiction. Here's the link to their FB page here! I buy so many of my supplies from there for redoing furniture and little DIY projects like this one!

Oh wait, I lied. I did get my Valspar Color Samples from Lowes for 50 CENTS in the markdown section! I just about died. Do you ever find something on sale and snatch it up really quick thinking someone else is just going to come and take it in front of you? No? I guess I'm just a nut. You can find more Valspar Color samples here. I LOVE these color samples! I don't know the exact color of these two but isn't the rich brown gorgeous and the calming white just well calming? They have so many great colors to choose from and they are seriously one of my favorite paint brands.

Here's the run down of all the supplies. I did not end up using my numbers on the wreath but I am sure I will find another project to use them on.

Valspar Paint Sample: $0.50 cent each
Flowers: $5.99 + 50% off at Hobby Lobby = $2.99 each! I bought 6 which made my total just about $20.00 with tax for just the flowers.
Burlap Ribbon: $9.99 at Hobby Lobby. (40% coupon from online) = $5.99
Scissors: I already had them so FREE!
Paint brush: I already had it so FREE!
Wreath: Originally purchased at Hobby Lobby for $4.99 but today it was FREE!
Wire: $2.49 at Hobby Lobby

Isn't it sooooooo pretty? I'm in lurve. PS, I added a "welcome" decal at the bottom. I ordered it off Ebay here. Be sure to let them know that I sent you!

And a view from walking up to our front porch. It totally warms up the space.

Here's a close up. Isn't she a beauty? And totally simple! And did I mention cheaper than buying one pre-made? This whole project cost me a mere $25.00 not including the supplies I already had!

Here's another view from walking up our sidewalk.

Love these flowers. I use them for everything!

So what do you think of my new wreath for our new house? And what about my "welcome" decal? Don't they just tie together perfect? Have you made a wreath lately? Let me know what you think!

We are here!

We have arrived in the sunshine state :)

We've been in Florida now for almost a month! The 26th will be a whole month, I cannot believe it! We got into our home alittle over two weeks ago and have slowly been trying to make it our own. If you know me, you know I have to CONSTANTLY remind myself to "enjoy the process."
I've already put a million holes in the wall too. Don't tell Ryan.

So far, we have almost the whole downstairs set up and most things are where they are going to go. For now.  We had alot of damages with our belongings getting here so it's been a real headache trying to get that sorted out. Between priceless antiques that are damaged and things that my late grandmother left me...are ruined. But they can't take my memories away. Even if I am still sad about it...really sad. Right now, I'm not working so I'm trying to work with what I have decor wise instead of going hog wild buying new things! I have alot of DIY projects in the works as well to include a new coffee table & end table set I scored off Craigslist! They are Broyhill and made so well! I couldn't be more thrilled with them...if only I could finish painting them :) We were planning on making a trip to Ikea to pick up a coffee table & end table set of theirs...but who can turn down real wood and at $125 for all three pieces...is amazing!
I'll be posting a blog post about those pieces once I get them done. Which I really hope is soon...

So, I've been having alot of people ask me to put up photos of my house. I really didn't want to before I got everything done...but then I thought, nothing is EVER done in our house..so why not.
DON'T judge me :)

Here's our new kitchen. At this time, we don't plan on painting because I dig the cream look. Soon, whenever Target decides to put these barstools back in stock...we can get rid of these temporary ones :) You can find the ones we want here. And if you are interested in buying the temporary ones, let me know on Facebook here. or at homebyally@yahoo.com.

View of the top of the cabinets. I'm obsessed with plates. My favorite is the brown one above the Microwave. I found it at TjMaxx a few weeks ago. Talk about a score. I also have my cookbook ready for recipes at any time near the stove. I love trying to cook new things and I think that the stand is a must in every kitchen!

I bought the old barn wood mirror at a craft show back when we were stationed in North Dakota for only $25 bucks! Can you believe that? And of course, I finally got my huge IMac I've been wanting forever :) This isn't a real desk but it'll due for now. It's actually a sofa table I plan on customizing and selling in my shop on Facebook. You can find my shop here. The canisters you see to the right are also from Wal-Mart. You can get them for $10 each. They are 2-gallon glass canisters and I love the look plus they are awesome and hold so much!

I ADORE this pillow. I picked up in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina while visiting from the day with my parents. Such a true saying and amazing to see every morning. Do you have a reminder everyday?

Here's another view of the kitchen. Cute light for the kitchen right. WRONG. It's actually kinda contemporary for the very traditional kitchen. They need to hire me as their interior designer, geez. It's coming together slowly and right now...I'm enjoying just having a nicer kitchen.

Here's our huge farmhouse table and benches we had custom made in North Dakota as well! I still adore this set and I hope we have it for the rest of our lives. The corner hutch is something that has been passed down to me from my mama and my late grandmother. I love it and will keep it forever. I plan on doing a little project with it in a few weeks as well so stay tuned.

Here's my new place mats from World Market. I would have pretty dishes to put on the bar but the movers broke them so right now they are neeked...but I don't mind it.

You can never go wrong with a pop of color. In this case, I had a vintage looking 3 tier basket holder from Hobby Lobby. I love the look. The birds nest on the bottom is from Target for $5 on clearance. I got the lemons and apples at Walmart. You can buy them in bulk there for under $10. SCORE.

The frames are from Target as well. I LOVE TARGET. Did you get that yet? I got them for $3.50 each! You can't beat that and I love the little sayings on them. When I see things like this everyday, it reminds me of how we should be living our lives. And yes, I know I need to put our pictures in there. I'll do it. Someday.

Here's a little area between the garage door on the right and there's a powder room on the left. I knew I wanted to put one of my many tables here so I decided on my old vintage looking green one with the deep stained top. I'll never get sick of this piece of furniture and I don't think that any of this will ever go out of style. The old window is from a house that got flooded in Minot, North Dakota. The skinny lamp is from Kirklands and the warmer is from Wal-Mart. I'm cheap and don't do the Scentsy thing. Nothing against anyone who does...but like I said, I'm cheap :) The PEPSI crate is also from Minot, North Dakota and so are all my Masons!

Here's a few looking from the corner of the kitchen near the fridge. We've started to hang curtains and had to buy HUGE rods from Lowes! LOVE them though! I'll do a post about hanging curtains later too :) I love putting pictures and trinkets on the counters. You don't have to just have kitchen stuff on your counters people! And did I mention that I HATE clutter and appliances. And those combined...UGH. I hide most of my appliances unless they are built into the house :)

I hope that y'all like what you see so far. I think I'll do a home tour after we get everything sort of in place. For now, this is all you get :) What does your kitchen look like?

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to let me know what you think!
