New Minted Art- Custom House Portrait & Board and Batten Entryway

Hey yall! I'm so excited to be bringing you todays post! We finished the board and batten in the entryway a little while ago and we are so thrilled with how it has turned out. I debated for months on end about doing this in our entryway number one, because we have coved ceilings and I don't want to take anything away from those beauties which are original to our 50's house. Finally, after going back and forth, while my husband was at work & while my mama kept telling me to keep thinking on it, I went for it. :)

And I love it.

It really adds that wow factor when you walk in and instantly brightened the room! The one thing I love in this room is opening the shades every morning & letting the sunshine beam in... but that's hard sometimes with furniture placement & time of day... even the lightest of paint colors sometimes don't help! The board and batten went super quickly this time as I had learned a few things from doing the board and batten in our sun room. You can see that post by clicking here.

I'll do a more detailed post on the board and batten at a later point but really, it's a beautiful back drop for any room. I had fun using some new things here to get a feel for how different this space can look! The other day I snapped some photos of some new art that I recieved from one of my new favorite websites, Minted!

If you haven't visited this website yet, be prepared to want everything. I ordered the custom letterpress house portrait below. If you're interested in seeing all the different options for this custom piece of art, just click the image below!

I knew as soon as I saw the option for the custom letterpress house portrait, I had to have one of our "first" home that we have ever purchased here in Florida. Minted had tons of options as far as how I wanted my portrait to be completed. I elected to choose a warm gray as the ink color for the portrait and also choose a barn wood frame in an 11x14 for a substantial look! You can see all of their options & the details for getting one of your OWN portraits like mine of your house by clicking here!

I am in awe of how great it turned out and I can't wait to find a more permanent place for it in our home. It literally could go anywhere.... and compliment the room, not because it's fancy "art" or framed nicely... but because it's ours. It's a memory of a house that will always be very special to us!

And by the way, for all of you candle lovers like me out there... go get this candle right NOW. It's from Ross and smells like I put a Christmas tree in my back pocket. It is amazing but not overpowering which I can definitely appreciate! And better than that, it has a wood wick so it makes noise... I can hear the oooo's and ahhhh's now! Really. Go get one. I'll be back on here hopefully this week to show you my Christmas house tour... yes, I know. Two blog posts in one week? What the what!? But in all seriousness... I am loving the pops of red & I'm so excited to show you more!

I am so honored to have partnered with Minted for this custom letterpress portrait of our home! I couldn't have asked for a sweeter or more dear to my heart piece of art. Please do me a favor and go ahead and head to their website and check out all they have to offer!

DIY Entryway Table using corbels/architectural salvage

Well it's been around three weeks since I lasted spoke with y'all! WOW! I've been so busy with real estate which is SUCH a blessing! And I also have more good news coming your way, especially if you're local so you definitely do NOT want to miss out on that!

I've been searching for the perfect entryway table for some time now. I wanted something narrow, long and a statement piece. And I really wanted it to be old as dirt. I'd rather have something with some history, that's not perfect and that tells a story than I would something new. I searched and searched and searched and came up with nothing.

Enter these two corbels that I found at HomeGoods of all places! Shout out to HomeGoods! Love that place. I practically stole them for the prize and get this…. I found one here in Florida and took a trip to North Carolina around Mother's Day. Wouldn't you know that I found the MATCHING one in North Carolina?! It was totally meant to be. I may or may not have jumped up and down that day in the store.

I apologize for the sorry cell phone photos! I took this really quick to document what it looked like as the process kept going! I was way too excited to actually get my real camera out! So here is the BEFORE photo of the space and then a few cell phone photos of it as it progressed. I'm not sure why this photo is oversaturated like it is but just try to see past that. To the left of the front door is a longer wall that serves as our entryway which is also open to the front living room.

Here is the cell phone photos I was speaking about earlier. First thing that I did was get my level, some wall anchors with screws and a drill to make sure my corbels were the correct length apart and were anchored correctly to the wall as well as being even since I was making a top!

I got really excited at this point but the balance was a little off with how thin the plywood top was compared to the chunkiness of the corbels below. So what's a girl to do? I found some scrap wood in the garage and created a skirt for the wood top to hide cords and chunky it up!

You can somewhat see under the last picture that I hid the cords with good old tape by taping them to the bottom of the wood top. From standing you can't see it at all and really can't even see it unless you are looking when you are sitting. That makes me happy, no cords that is :)

And here's a view with the new lamps on. I'm playing around with how I want the top styled and I still want to do something creative with the cord in the old crock. But I am really loving the look, especially because no one else that I know has something like this. It is unique to our house! New art, shabby cabinet for sale and a new mirror & lamps

Probably the longest title ever for a blog post. Oh well. For those of you who were wondering, my sale went very well. We only had a few large items left which I anticipated from the beginning that we would not sell. Two antique dressers and an antique Duncan Phyfe buffet. If you're interested, there are going to be pictures going up very soon on Home by Ally on Facebook.

So let me start by saying that Milo says hello! He is getting so big and is such a little ham!

First up would be my gorgeous new lamps that I found at our TjMaxx. I've been eyeing lamps like this FOREVER at Pottery Barn, the ones at Target and other stores but they were TOO pricey for my liking and usually JUST for the bases! These came with the shades for half the price! Although I have to say that the lamp shades were a burlap fabric type shade that I thought didn't do anything for the lamps so I added these cream linen shades that I had laying around.

Here's an up close view. I'm all about greenery and bringing color in through natural elements so you'll see a lot of faux plants in our home. I think they add a great little punch of color.

I also went to Hobby Lobby when they had their knobs for 50% off and scooped up 3 new ones for the TV stand. I'm really sad that I heard that they are not doing the 50% knobs anymore. These really helps out most of us who do DIY projects or furniture...sad day for me :-( I needed a change to the regular old silver ones. This cost me under $10 to update the whole TV stand. A cute little idea if you don't want a new TV stand but just kinda wanna give yours a facelift.

If you have been following me for awhile, you may also know that I have a "slight" obsession with boxwoods. And there's no exception with these boxwood topiaries. I adore them and flanked them on either side of our TV in our living room. I had smaller plants on either side but we really needed something with height to make a great impression on the eye.

Here's a better photo. I'm really digging the change. I've been searching for a piece of architectural salvage to hang above our TV for some time now but no luck yet :(

Oh! And here's my update on my apothecary dresser that I painted a warm sage green! I finally got all the knobs from Hobby Lobby while I was home in North Carolina! I adore this little piece and I was so lucky to find it. And no, I'm really not ready to sell it yet ;-)

Here's a view walking from the dining room near our patio door. My antique mahogany rocker that I painted a warm beige and slightly distressed. I adore that chair and couldn't bring myself to sell it at my first sale here in Florida. For now, it sits in our living room but I would love to find a nice padded chair or a nice, cute pillow to go in it. Still on the hunt.

Quickly, I threw a pillow from the couch on the chair. I still would LOVE to find new pillows for my couch more of my "style" but these paisley ones do the trick for now. Pillows are such an easy change and it's nice to have a few different selections for when you feel the urge to change things up.

Ok so... my shabby cabinet from circa 1900's the guy said? It is the base to an old cupboard that came out of an Florida or Georgia home. The paint is all original. I added the nice and rustic pulls and the planked wood top. And guess what, these hunky piece of wood is for sale. Please email me through the contact me tab if you are interested. It is for local pickup only and truly a statement piece. Years and years of paint on this beauty and just a lovely addition to any home.

Here's a few at all of the chippy goodness.

And a close up of the paint.

Interior doors are in a cream color while the shelving varies from aquas, greens and raw woods.

Original hardware on the cabinet doors.

OH! And I purchased this mirror at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago. I thought the lines were beautiful but the red/black were not me but I bought it anyways. I'm going to paint it white and hang it in our entryway if I can ever get to it.

For now, I wanted to share some new things with you in our home. First up are these vintage drawings from Clayton, Georgia circa 1975. I snatched them up at a thrift store and knew the perfect place for them. I've been searching for little things for our home like this every time I go out so let's just say I was super excited when I found these beauties today! And what makes it even better is the bottom print is a print of a old store called Alley's Grocery. They got the spelling wrong but I thought it was pretty neat.

I love the grouping so much and it reminds me of a mini gallery wall. The warm wood compliments the beige on the walls so well. It also goes well with my antiques and collectibles I have in the space.

That's it for now. What are your latest finds? I'm sure we'll talk soon.
